Trend: Androgyny

Fall 2015 Menswear

A lot is changing in the identity of menswear.  Gucci has installed a new creative director, Alessandro Michele, to bring a new contemporary look to the brand. That look brought an androgynous styling of blouses for men.  J.W. Anderson started his career by provoking a gender bending question to what menswear might become.  He is now designing his label for luxury powerhouse L.V.M.H.

Across the board we’re seeing what was once considered feminine as part of a new dialog for menswear.  Gender identity is not so black and white.  It can be seen in all colors, shapes, textures, styling, and patterns.  Here’s a view of what some designers are proposing for the Fall 2015 season.

Trend: Print Mix

Spring 2015 RTW

The biggest trend I saw on the runways for spring 2015 was the use of mixing prints.  These could be seen with contrasting patterns, textures, and scale used to create some of the more interesting designs.  They signal to women that it’s de rigueur to mix it all up and forget about matching.

Trend: Sheer

Spring 2015 RTW

The trend in sheer fabrications continues whether it’s used for breast revealing tops, transparent patterning, or overlays.  Seen here in organza, knits, tulle, and lace.

Trend: Asymmetry

Spring 2015 RTW

The body is not a symmetrical canvas.  Deconstruction of the dress form continues to find new inspiration with texture, form, shape, and lengths giving designers an expression that confronts our traditional ideas of beauty.
